How Wastequip Uses PCS TMS to Run LTL Smarter and Build Stronger Carrier Networks

Transcript

Hey everyone, Jason here with PCS.

My name is Eddie. I’m with Wastequip.

We started with PCS in 2021. How have you liked it so far? It’s been great. We use it for truckload and LTL. I’m mostly on the LTL side, but yeah, we’re enjoying it.

How are you liking the vision from 2021 until now, with the products and the AI we’re coming out with? What’s your expectation on that? I honestly am kind of interested to see where you guys go with it and what you’re going to do with it. I’m not super well-versed in that stuff to begin with, but it does sound like you guys have some interesting things going on.

The one that I’m looking forward to is the natural speech question. I’m building that, so you can just search through everything, right? My life up to this point has been filters, filters, filters. To be able to just ask a direct question and get right to it—that’s exciting. We’re looking at utilizing your time and being more efficient because that equals more productivity, more revenue. People spend hours going through filters, so think about the cost savings over a year. There’s tons of savings in that. Absolutely.

When you’ve had issues with PCS—maybe something in the software or needing help—how has customer service helped you? For me, I’m very much in the LTL world. PCS has historically been more geared toward truckload shipping. The LTL stuff has certainly come a long way. They take a lot of feedback from me, and I try to give them the best I can. There’s still room for improvement, but I’m looking forward to seeing how they continue to develop the program.

That’s what we love—when we get feedback, we’re able to input that and make it customizable for you. Those things you’ve requested, we’ve been able to roll out, maybe not immediately, but over time to help your company be more efficient. We have a lot of custom configurations as well, especially with the LTL stuff.

Usually, when people think of systems like this, it’s a huge investment because you have to get everybody on board and train them. What was your onboarding process like when you switched over? For us, it was pretty seamless, honestly. I had a lot of meetings with our account manager, John. We really got our hands around it quickly enough that I became the subject matter expert for all our people internally and suppliers. I led a lot of the trainings and created documentation. So I’ve got a good grasp of how it works. We’ve designed it to be user-friendly so that onboarding is easy—someone can become the expert quickly and help train others, but it’s also intuitive enough for everyone to pick up.

What would you say to people looking at PCS? What you see out of the box doesn’t necessarily have to be the way it stays. If you have custom things you want to change, that’s one of the biggest advantages of PCS versus bigger options—the flexibility and willingness to cater to your specific needs. Absolutely. Other players charge even for a phone call—like $100 an hour. We wanted to eliminate that model and really be customer-service oriented, listen to you, provide feedback, and give you the changes you need because every operation is different.

Going back to the broad things PCS does, what’s the number one way we’ve helped you be more efficient or helped your bottom line? One of the biggest things our company loves is the load board—being able to post everything out to our carriers and the carriers we’ve honed in on, as opposed to posting out to the entire market. It’s been phenomenal for us. We use it every single day, dozens of times. When you’re using that load board, you’re posting to pre-approved carriers we have contracts with and trust. It’s not broadcast to every carrier, which would require vetting. Especially in this market, you get hounded with phone calls as soon as you post publicly. Keeping it within that network means we have a 99% acceptance rate and don’t need to reach out to others. It helps us build relationships because we no longer have one-off shipments. These are carriers we want to continue doing business with, which streamlines the process because we don’t need new carrier packets—they’re all set up within the system. Absolutely. It’s awesome. Thank you.
