CASE STUDY: LSI World Creates Efficiencies on a Global Scale with PCS Software

October 25, 2022

LSI World offers Canada-wide and cross-border truckload and less than- truckload service as well as innovative supply chain solutions that include short-term warehousing, order fulfillment, cross-docking, and last-mile transportation. The Canadian-based company operates terminals in Mississauga, Puslinch, Montreal, and in Buffalo, N.Y., with a specialty in general freight, temperature-controlled and HAZMAT commodities.

The Challenge

Person TypingLSI has about 90 trucks total across separate fleets domiciled at each terminal with a dedicated team of dispatchers, sales representatives and other support staff. To provide a consistent level of customer service, team members need instant access to information, companywide.

The company’s legacy transportation management system (TMS) was making it difficult for team members to look up information for customers, and the challenges mounted when employees worked outside the office.

LSI needed a reliable, easy-to-use TMS platform with a robust feature set that could scale with the company as it looked to grow an overseas support staff in India for managing routine dispatch and back-office functions.

“The first thing that stood out about PCS Software was that it was far easier to use than any other tool in the market.”

The Solution

LSI evaluated TMS platforms before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the search led to Carrier TMS, a cloud-based platform from PCS Software with a full suite of integrated modules for dispatch, accounting, and fleet management.

“The first thing that stood out about PCS Software was that it was far easier to use than any other tool in the market,” said Himanshu Mehra, operations manager of LSI World. “Another advantage we could see was how it would make the payroll process seamless for drivers. We were able to incorporate efficiencies into our fleet management operations right away.”

The Results

LSI World quickly saw operational improvements by using the modern and scalable PCS Software system to:

  • Increase speed and efficiency. The team seamlessly cross-coordinates efforts between teams in North America and India. Previously, its legacy system made coordination difficult due to connectivity and bandwidth issues. With the cloud-based PCS platform, teams can easily access and filter information to respond quickly to customer needs.
  • Improve the driver experience. The PCS system is immensely helpful for load planning. “When scheduling loads for drivers, we now know when a driver is available or when they’re off because that information is readily available for us,” Mehra said. “Before, our HR department had to coordinate each touchpoint to understand who was available and who wasn’t.”
  • Deliver a better customer experience. LSI customers can receive live updates on shipments and other details from the PCS system. “One of the biggest advantages of the PCS system is that we’re able to provide a custom, tailored service to every customer that we have,” Mehra said.
  • Seamlessly capture information. LSI has instant access to proof-of-delivery receipts and other documents captured by drivers using the Mobile Express app. Dispatchers also enter notes in Carrier TMS to document shipment details, like the time a driver left a facility or started a dispatch, to keep detailed records.

LSI World is leveraging Carrier TMS to provide a new service offering to the transportation industry. The company has grown its staff in India to 50 people and plans to offer 24/7 outsourced staffing services to help other trucking and logistics companies using the PCS platform to book loads, dispatch, and manage the cross-border customs process more efficiently. The add-on services are possible by having a TMS platform that maximizes speed and efficiencies on a global scale.
